Antifoulant And Marine Antifoulant Green Chemistry

What is Antifoulant ?

 It is a substance which can be used  to be designed to prevent reduce and eliminate fouling. 

For example- 

• DDT
• Mirex
• Aldrin and Dieldrin
• Organophosphate insecticide malathion

Purpose:- 

It is the process of protecting a ship hull with specifically designed material such as special paints that prevent these organism from pilling up in the hull.

Work:-

To prevent organic and biological material colloids and particulate from attaching themselves to the membrane.

Importance of antifoulant

Antifouling protects the hull with a layer of protective paint which help to detach mariene life as it moves with water.

Foulants:-

1. Soft Foulants (Algae and seweed )
2. Hard Foulants (Barnacles an diatoms)

It can be used to control the growth of marine organism
