Kharg Island: Why the US and Israel Don’t Attack Iran’s Most Critical Oil Hub
Global Geopolitics | Oil Crisis | China Factor
Why Kharg Island Is So Important?
Kharg Island does not produce oil itself, yet it is the backbone of Iran’s economy. Iran’s coastline is shallow, so large oil tankers cannot dock directly. To solve this, Iran built underwater pipelines that transport crude oil to Kharg Island.
From here, oil is exported worldwide. Nearly 90% of Iran’s oil exports pass through this island.
Why Don’t US & Israel Attack?
1. Global Oil Shock
Any attack would disrupt oil supply, causing prices to skyrocket globally. This could lead to massive inflation and economic instability worldwide.
2. China Factor (Most Important)
China is one of the biggest buyers of Iranian oil. If Kharg Island is attacked, China’s energy supply will be affected.
This could turn a regional conflict into a global confrontation, which is why the US is cautious.
3. Strait of Hormuz Threat
Iran has warned that if attacked, it may block the Strait of Hormuz — a route through which 20–25% of global oil passes.
Conclusion
Kharg Island is not just a small island — it is a critical node in the global economy. Any attack here could trigger a worldwide crisis.
This is why even powerful countries like the US and Israel avoid targeting it directly.
