Historical Development:- 

The father of greek in the science,Thales of miltus when amber is rubber in wool is attracting bits of straw.Electron is greek name of amber.In scientist Queen Elizabeth first scientific account in early experience of electric and magnetic field.

Two Kinds of electricity:- 
  • Resonus:- When amber isrubbed in wool then it give negative charge
  • Vitreous:- The elctricity is developed on the wool it give positively charge




Positve Charge:- When a body lose the electron then they accquire negatively Charge

Negative Charge:- When a body gain the electron then it accqire negatively charge.

Method of Charge:- 

Charging by conduction:-

When a neutral body is brought in the contact charged body then it accquire positive charge.This method is called as charging by conduction.

Charging by friction:- 

When a neutral body is rubbed against in the neutral charged body then it may be accquired the negatively charge is called as the charging of friction.Then electricity is produced by the friction is called as the Frictional electricity.

Definition and Introduction:- 

Cis-diols is formed in this reaction.This reaction is mainly proceed in the presence of iodine and silver acetate reagant.

Woodward reaction after the opposite facial selectivity as compared to oxidation with OSO4.Steroid intermediate here the steroic approach factor first direct the stereochemistry of the iodination,which is followed by7 hydroxylation from opposite face.Where as OSO4 leads to the isomeric Cu-diols by direct attack from the most accessible face. 

General Reaction:- 



Mechanism  :- 

  • First Step mean the addition of iodine deads to a cyclic iodinium ion that is opened through a nucloeophilic subsitution by acetate ions.
  • Second step mean the deored product can be isolated after hydrolysis.

More Greener reaction is Woodward or Upjohn ?

  • Upjohn uses highly toxic and volatile OSO4 in the reaction but is used only.
  • Woodward hydroxylation utilizes metal in stiochmetric amount along with halogen which is used stochiometric only

Woodward Cis-Hydroxylation Reaction And Mechanism



General Introduction:- 

  • Cis diols is formed by KMnO4 & OSO4.
  • Trans diols using peroxide and metal carbohydrate etc.

Reaction By Using KMnO4:- 






Mechanism :- 





Upjohn Oxidation:- It allow the syn selective preparation 1,2-diols from alkenes by the use of osmium tetraoxide as a catalyst and a stochiometric amount of an oxidant such as NMO (N-methyl morpholine-N-Oxidation)

Reaction:- 



There are two mechanism for upjohn dihydroxylations:-

  1. Criege Mechanism
  2. Sharpless Mechanism 


Important Points :-

  • NMO used as a reoxidant for osmium tetraoxide.
  • It will dehydroxylate all the alkene (but only alkenes)
  • Electron withdrawing group  on the alkenes slow the reaction but do not stop it.
  • Bulk of osmium complex results in dihydroxylation from least hindered face.
  • Criege showed that the amine ligands increase rate o0f reaction.
  • Presumbly an electron rich complex is formed increasing the reactivity of the oxygen atom.
  • A second effect is to make the oxygen atoms better at H- bonding and thus reverse slecturty.
  • Green Context:- Use a catalytic amount of toxic and volatile OSO4 due to the presence of NMO as reoxidant.

What is a Wave function in quantum physics? 

Answer:- A wave function is a mathematical description of a quantum state of a particle as a function of momentum, time, position and spin. The symbol used for a wave function is a Greek letter called psi, ψ. It helps us to know the probability of finding particle within the matter.


Characteristics of wave function:- 

  1. Contains all measurable information about the particle.
  2. ψ should be continuous and single-valued.
  3. ψ should be finite.
  4. ψ should be square Integrable.
  5. ψ2 gives us probability of finding the particle.

Boundary Conditions:-

  1. In order to avoid infinite probabilities, ψ must be finite everywhere.
  2. In order to avoid multiple values of the probability, ψ must be single valued.
  3. For finite potentials, the wave function and its derivative must be continuous. This is required because the second order derivative term in the wave equation must be single valued.
  4.  In order to normalize the wave function, it must approach zero as x approaches infinity.

Particle in a Three Dimensional Box :-

The quantum particle in the 1D box problem can be expanded to consider a particle within higher dimensions.
