Aim:-
To determine the heat capacity of the calorimeter and enthalpy of neutralization of hydrochloric acid and with sodium hydroxide.
Apparatus:-
A Calorimeter,0.1 molar hydrochloric acid,0.1 mol sodium hydroxide,0.1 molar oxalic acid, thermometer, burette, pipette, titration flask, two volumetric flask, two beaker,pro-pipetter,measuring cylinder, stopwatch.
Theory:-
The heat capacity of a defined system is the amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of the system by 1 degree. It is expressed in units of thermal energy per degree temperature to add in analysis of system have certain specific dimension molar heat capacity and specific heat capacity can be used to be measured the heat capacity of the reaction a calorimeter must be used the water equivalent of calorimeter can be found out by the formula.
The enthalpy of neutralization is the enthalpy that occur when one gram equivalent of an acid and one gram equivalent of base undergo a neutralization reaction to form salt and water.
Procedure:-
- Measure hundred ml of water at room temperature in measuring cylinder.
- Shift the water at room temperature into the Calorimeter.
- Close the cap of the polarimeter and put the thermometer through the slot into calorimeter.
- Measure the temperature after every 30 seconds for 5 minutes.
- Now heat hundred ml of water in a beaker and note the temperature of the mixture after every 30 seconds for 5 minutes and make a table.
- Now add water from beaker in to cal metre and not the temperature of the mixture after every 30 second.
- Plot the graph of cold water and hot water add mixture.
- Take reading two more Times.
- Now prepare 0.1 molar solution of sodium hydroxide by adding 2 gram of sodium hydroxide in 500 ml of water.
- Prepare 0.1 molar solution of oxalic acid by adding 0.63 equivalent weight of oxalic acid in hundred ml of water.
- Now prepare 0.1 molar solution of oxalic acid by adding 2.94 ml of hydrochloric acid and in 50 ml of water.
- Now standard dice and its solution using 0.1 molar oxalic acid solution at now standardise the hydrochloric acid solution using standardised NaOH solution.
- Add hundred ml of sodium hydroxide into cal metre at note the temperature after every 30 seconds for 5 minutes.
- Now at the speaker feel of HCL into Cal m containing NaOH.
- Now I know the temperature after every 30 seconds for 5 minutes and make the table the reading of sodium hydroxide hydrochloric acid and its mixture.
Reading and table are given by practical in lab
