Shyam Sharan Negi the first voter of independent India.



Shyam Sharan Negi was the first voter of independent India. He belonged to Kalpa in Kinnaur district, he was a teacher, when India became independent, elections were held in 1952. But due to heavy snow in Himachal's Kalpa, elections were held there before December 1951 because there was a stop due to snow, due to which no traffic could go there, due to which the first vote was given to Shyam Sharan Negi. It was also because he was a JBT teacher, due to which he had duty in the election.

He voted a total of 33 times and he did his last vote for Himachal Vidhansabha 2022, although Himachal Pradesh elections were to be held on 12th November 2022 but due to ill health of Shyam Sharan Negi ji, he voted through belt paper on 2nd November 2022.
