Determination of Effect of Industrial Effluents on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Rice and Wheat
Aim
To determine and compare the effect of industrial effluent water (ACC cement plant water) and clean groundwater on seed germination and seedling growth of rice and wheat.
Materials Required
- Rice seeds
- Wheat seeds
- Clean groundwater
- ACC cement plant effluent water
- Petri dishes / trays
- Soil / filter paper
Experimental Design
- Control Group: Seeds treated with clean groundwater
- Test Group: Seeds treated with ACC cement plant effluent water
- See experiment video
Procedure
- Healthy seeds were selected.
- Seeds were placed in trays.
- Control group irrigated with groundwater.
- Test group irrigated with effluent water.
- Observations recorded for 7–10 days.
⚠ Industrial effluent showed reduced germination and poor seedling growth.
Result
Industrial effluent from ACC cement plant significantly reduced seed germination and seedling growth compared to clean groundwater.
Conclusion
Untreated industrial effluents are harmful to agricultural crops and must be treated before environmental discharge.
